Responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading network infrastructure in four datacenter locations across the US. Supporting Cisco, HP, Mikrotik, and Ubiquiti hardware for both datacenter operations and client services. Manage all BGP routing for all sites which have blended internet solutions (multi-provider). Develop custom Mikrotik scripts and rules to manage security and blacklist routing. Deployed updated Graylog server for central logging, implementing log collection from network devices, Linux servers, and Windows workstations/servers. Implemented a basic security dashboard, allowing level 1 staff to easily observe/react to incoming security incidents through Graylog. Address and manage systems and network security, including active attacks such as DDoS and hacking attempts. Actively manage and support both Hyper-V and OnApp virtualization platforms. Build, install, maintain, and troubleshoot Ubuntu/CentOS Linux and Windows 2008/2012/2016 servers. Interface directly with clients providing engineering assistance in both networking and systems. While working various contract positions, throughout northern California, performed emergency troubleshooting/repair of a vmWare vSphere v6 cluster. Installed network cabling for a client site, updating their building network to support gigabit. Performed managed upgrades of clients’ desktop infrastructure upgrading them from Windows 7/XP to Windows 10 and performed troubleshooting of earlier applications to allow them to work on Windows 10. Performed layer 1 network troubleshooting for a client site which loss connectivity between two buildings, which was due to a damaged fiber run in an industrial environment.

Performed administration/engineering including performing security mitigation, development operations, and advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution across all systems and network issues. Assisted with setup, configuration and testing of Spacewalk (Satellite) in preparation of automating patching efforts. Successfully migrated from Cisco CSS-1150x load balancers to Cisco ACE4710 devices and implemented Cisco GSS4492 site selectors. Implemented Cisco 45xx switches for core switching and routing, as well as implemented ASA55xx series firewalls for security. Upgraded from Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 to 8.8.7 SP6 in multiple environments, migrating base operating system from RHEL5 to CentOS 6.x, also ensuring system and application LDAP authentication and authorization of users across 100+ Linux systems. Development of programmatic LDAP testing tools for QA department using Perl. Replaced existing Cisco wireless solution with Ubiquiti wireless solution utilizing 802.1x authentication with a Windows Server NPS back end. Installed, setup, and migrated virtual infrastructure from VMWare to XenServer, including migration or rebuild of various Windows and Linux virtual systems. Performed development of custom monitoring solutions for in-house applications and tuning of monitoring in OMD/Nagios/Check_MK environment to ensure proper alert thresholds for production systems and networking. Authored technical documentation for supporting custom system builds, in-house applications, and LDAP administrative tasks. Developed infrastructure plan for hardware, software, applications, network, project tasks, and procured pricing for all hardware and software to be used in upcoming California Emissions Testing contract for the state to take over ownership of the system providing all emissions testing within the state based upon the contract requirements provided from the state agency and other governing requirements (CALVista).

Responsible for providing management and strategic direction for the IT Operations team supporting enterprise infrastructure for the California Emissions Testing Program and day to day operation activities for internal and external infrastructure and clients. Performed hiring, employee development, and management of a strong technical team to support the infrastructure. Developed required processes and procedures for a smooth functioning IT Operations team. Participated in cross-functional projects and initiatives. Responsible for the successful rollout of the state’s new internet based emissions testing program (CALVis).

Responsible for three production sites with 100+ Linux/AIX/Windows servers, Novell eDirectory/Active Directory environments, and all network connectivity between them for the California Emissions Testing Program. Migrated existing network to follow Cisco’s ECNM design model, and deployed EIGRP routing across the network to enhance routing and failover. Migrated WAN connectivity from Frame Relay to MPLS utilizing BGP routing and Metro Ethernet/OptiMan connections. Performed circuit turn-up and tests for network connectivity and enhancements. Upgraded and maintain Cisco Content Switches handling load distribution of application data, web traffic, and mainframe communications. Upgraded and maintain Cisco CallManager Express/Unity Express system, and wrote IVR and auto attendant scripts. Performed migration of production & development systems from SuSE Enterprise Linux 9 & 10 to RHEL5 & CentOS 6.x. Installed, setup, and maintain multiple VMWare ESX/ESXi/VI servers, and migrated/created multiple virtual machines to alleviate physically hardware issues and reduce costs. Deployed changes to the systems/network to increase security across the network and systems, improving annual security assessment scoring. Deployed and configured snort, Nessus, BASE, and arpwatch applications for network & security monitoring/auditing. Performed physical datacenter and office moves with minimal issues and maintained SLAs. Developed perl and shell applications to ease network administration and automate routine system maintenance. Managed security audit remediation and responses to third party auditing firms. Handled vendor relationships regarding network/circuit, hardware, and software purchases and support. Contract to take over a delayed implementation project. Successfully created an inventory of all Cisco networking equipment at 37 sites belonging to three separate medical affiliates. Using the collected data, an implementation plan was developed for the rollout of the Enterprise Network Monitoring Solutions, which was modified for the medical affiliates, taking into consideration the affiliates existing toolsets. Managed vendor relationship between HP, Sutter Health, and third-party consulting firm to resolve ongoing issues with their HP OpenView NNM environment. Managed the communications between the affiliates and Sutter Health to ensure effective communications and develop a productive relationship. Managed the implementation of the solution, ensuring that all tasks that needed to be performed by both Sutter Health & affiliate staff were completed. Performed perl development to maintain and extend HP OpenView NNM, and assisted with the deployment and development of HP OpenView NNM. Developed filters for HP OpenView NNM and implemented basic correlation circuits to manage scheduled maintenance of devices and event correlation. Resolved application issues between HP OpenView NNM and Tivoli NetView for proper alert forwarding to primary alert aggregator.

Developed and maintained monitoring utilities and applications within the department. Rebuilt and maintained department's intranet site and site tools, and then migrated to Oracle 9i portal. Developed system, application, and training documentation. Designed, developed, and implemented real-time transaction monitoring tools in Perl for revenue critical applications monitored by the department. Created, modified, and maintained HP OpenView Operations monitoring templates and back-end applications for meaningful event correlation used within the enterprise. Participated in technical interviews for hiring personnel and training of new personnel on departmental processes and procedures. Performed change/incident/outage management coordinator functions in compliance with ITSM/ITIL standards. Developed and maintained the department’s standardization of all UNIX account environments.

Performed maintenance and administration of business systems in a heterogeneous enterprise environment. Installed, configured and maintained Windows 95/NT workstations in a Lotus Notes and Novell Client 32 network environment for Western Farm Credit Bank. Developed a communication interface script to handle high volume monetary transactions. Configured and troubleshot several in-house financial transaction and mainframe connectivity software applications using WallData Rumba. Developed scripts in WallData Rumba to automate repetitive tasks.

Researched and documented Packard Bell, NEC and Zenith Data Systems (ZDS) hardware, software, and product issues. Developed and maintained the technical knowledge base used by the Technical Support centers of Packard Bell/NEC/ZDS, as well as the service database used by authorized service centers. Performed pre/post production hardware engineering changes. Developed software fixes for post-production issues that arose in the hardware.
