About Rob Barry

I never say no to a new idea. Some of the best ideas have come after someone came up with a new idea which started a new conversation. In a world full of fear of change, I find this can be the best way to look old habits. I love technology and what it can do, but I believe I believe we should be its masters and not the other way around. We are fascinated by what we can do, but often forget to ask the important question what should we do? This is the kind of thinking I like to bring to all my work. Leading teams by directing them to achieve a goal or solve a problem has always been a source of great joy for me. I’ve learned several times over as a leader in the Air Force, if you take care of those working for you, they will take care of you by taking care of the mission. My superpower is understanding people’s skills and abilities and getting them to the right place for them to grow and thrive. This always ends up being a win win situation for them and whoever they are working for. I love my current role as a planner because it allows me to dig deep into a problem to find the root cause and not allow us to be distracted by the surface symptoms. The root cause of a problem is often not what most people think it is, and we often discover other nuances of the situation that were not previously known. I get excited to dive deep and research an issue to understand the history of it and see if there is another way of looking at it. I try to get my teams to ask the right questions early before going down a path that can be going against our own goals. There is wisdom in the crowd, but we have to be careful and really look at things closely because the crowd can also be subject to groupthink. I received the greatest complement after making a very unpopular decision by going against the recommendations of those above and below me. I was later thanked by those who earlier disagreed with me that I made the right decision. My greatest accomplishment is marrying my beautiful wife who gave me my two wonderful children. Family gives me the perspective of working for a higher purpose which is what I always aim to do. Work without a larger purpose will feel meaningless and empty to everyone involved. My side gig is being an amateur real estate investor. I love putting together and good deal.
