In this role I was part of the MP Support team, holding responsibility for:- Being the first point of contact to a group of around 170 MPs for matters relating to their work expenses, though email exchange, phone contact and face-to-face meetings- Providing advice on the 'Scheme' of expenses to MPs, helping to ensure compliance with the principles, rules and processes contained within it- Assisting MPs and their staff in using the online expenses system such that their claims are submitted in a timely and accurate manner and that they are aware of their current financial position

I spent two years on the LGA's National Graduate Development Programme, working at Woking Borough Council. In the first year of the scheme, I was placed in Legal Services, responsible for co-ordinating the council’s compliance project in response to new data protection legislation. I was responsible for:- Building and curating a register of the council’s personal data processing, through meetings with managers- Interpreting the new legislation along with official guidance, identifying areas of activity that needed improving and deciding what actions were necessary, such as varying contracts, changing access controls, disposing documents and establishing new retention periods- Tracking of resulting actions and reporting to the Corporate Management Group on progress made- Drafting notices for the public about the processing of their personal dataIn the second and final year of the scheme, I was part of a project team implementing a new Housing IT system. I was responsible for:- Leading on the implementation of the Core module, and other modules, in terms of configuration, testing and training- Liaising with the supplier’s technical consultants in order to meet requirements, carry out actions and solve issues- The bulk of project administration, including scheduling, booking rooms and recording how many consultancy days the project has ‘spent’- Acting as the point of contact for the project when the part-time Project Manager was not in the officeAlso, over the course of the scheme I have:Completed a Level 7 qualification in Leadership and ManagementVolunteered for and successfully undertaken the roles of Count Assistant, Poll Clerk and Presiding Officer at several local elections

In this role I supported the Public Affairs department in maintaining and improving relations with the Government and other public sector stakeholders.
