This role saw me act as the 2IC and then lead the communications functions of the City of Edmonton in communicating with citizens and managing the city’s reputation. • Oversaw up to 62 communications professionals, including nine direct reports, and managed a corporate communications budget of up to $7.2 million in support of the city’s goals and reputation.• Provided communications strategic direction and advice at senior levels of the organization, including the Mayor’s office, City Councillors, the City Manager’s office and the corporate leadership team.• Built relationships with key City stakeholder organizations, including provincial and federal governments, the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, to achieve mutually beneficial goals through joint program and communications delivery.• Managed communications aspects of complex public involvement processes for projects critical to advancing the City, including the downtown arena.• Developed organizational processes and policies for: media relations management including social media, internal proactive message alignment, enhanced environmental scanning and issues identification and management.• Directly responsible for teams supporting media relations, marketing and advertising, graphic design and council services. Direct oversight for the City’s website, marketing, internal communications and media relations functions.• Acted as media spokesperson as required. Advised senior managers on media relations strategy and delivery.• Led the communications aspects of the renewal and redevelopment of the City of Edmonton's website, including leading the research-driven strategy that guided the renewal.
