About Robert Rosenthal
A brief story first...We had some of “the best and the brightest” in my fourth-grade class, but it wasn't evident when oral book reports were delivered, usually in monotone. Virtually everyone started with, “My book was ---, by ---, and it was interesting.” I was determined one day to try another approach--to speak with some passion and not mention the name of the book or author. I proceeded to weave a mystery featuring the central character’s many challenges and triumphs. Only in my final line, I said, “And that is why I found Booker T. Washington’s Up from Slavery so compelling.” Rare applause followed and I heard a few people whisper, “I knew it was him!”So was born my interest in seeking more creative ways to convey information and involve others in the journey. That journey would take me to Harvard University’s Grad School of Education, middle/high school teaching (a positive alien encounter), and to the launching of three Learning and Development functions. But my continuing mantra was simply—"there's got to be a better way". How can initiatives and programs be designed to be more thought-provoking, engaging, and ultimately more needle-moving?
