I have been a photographer since I was 13. Although I am professionally trained as a psychologist (BA, 1972, MA, 1973, University of Alabama in Birmingham, Ph.D., University of Alabama, 1980 (Kappa Delta Pi, and Statistician, Mu Sigma Rho)) and was employed in that capacity by the U.S. Department of Defense from 1980 until my retirement in 2005, I have always had a lifelong interest in the art and science of photography. For nearly six decades, I have utilized traditional photographic chemical processing techniques and light-sensitive film, slides, and print media to produce my photographic art. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ivan in 2004 destroyed all my optical photographic equipment as well as a lifetime's worth of prints, negatives, and slides. Since then, I have been able to replace those losses with digital equipment, techniques, and media, and I have rebuilt my photographic portfolio. I am a member of the Professional Photographers of America, the Santa Rosa Arts and Cultural Foundation, and the Arts Council of Northwest Florida. As a juried artist my work has been displayed at his Studio One Pensacola, Quayside Gallery, and other galleries and restaurants in the local area. I owned and operated the studio from 2009 until 2023 when I suffered a sudden, total, and irretrievable deafness in my right ear, which forced me to close the studio. I currently work from my home office and studio in Gulf Breeze, Florida, in the rapidly growing field of remote (virtual) photography worldwide, using the internet and advanced mobile devices and technology.My photography subjects are varied, whether in the studio or on location. While I have extensive training in digital technology and image manipulation, my approach is to capture and convey images the way I experienced them at the time they were taken, without staging, excessive enhancement, or distortion. I process and produce all my own work using the highest quality archival materials and techniques. In addition to my interest in photography as art, I am available for general commercial photographic projects in studio, remotely, or on location, including formal and informal portraits of individuals and groups, school photography, beach photography, portfolio development, photojournalism, and advertising photography; anything that involves the photography of people, places, and things. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, and a resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida since 1984, I live with my wife, Jan. My other interests include fine dining, gourmet cooking, and socializing with friends.
