The role required basic understanding of the business reporting tools which were SSRTS, Tableu and business objects. Understanding the data model setup for each tool helped in identifying some issues found; when examining QEP for example.• Development of custom .NET components to undertake special activities such as complex data formatting / cleansing that go beyond the best proactive scope of SSIS script tasks. These were registered in the GAC and easily referenced within SSIS scripts tasks.• Troubleshoot performance issues relating to IO, compression was introduced where possible with some tables migrated to column store format where significant performance gain was possible.• Work closely with the business users who had access to the data source via excel and tune the queries as appropriate. This would typically involve typical techniques such as indexing, temp table optimisation and caching (schedule query via agent to run less frequently).• Responsible for the daily checks and highlighting issues for further investigation as necessary. This was refined from a lengthy manual process spanning the various technologies used including MSMQ, to a more data driven automated solution.• Advise and implement changes to database security. For example, setting object permissions against database roles and grouping users within these roles as appropriate. SQL Logins would in future be replaced by AD logins or groups.• Introduce consistent and reliable database version control, through Visual Studio with all data migrations and schema changes stored appropriately as applicable within visual studio and built as part of the solution. SQLCmd variables were used.• Custom scripting to facilitate the build and deployment of both database and SSIS objects and any dependencies, such as jobs and environment variables. -
