As a result, students will not only develop deeper thinking and listening skills but also become cohesive units working together to meet challenges the subject brings forth.

Being a Peer Mentor, the position requires monitoring student retention and overseeing student success efforts at NMHU as well as assuring the functions of the First-Year and Second-Year Experience within the university. A culture of excellence and connection that boosts students into successful college careers is the main focus of an advisor. As a mentor, the need to ease the transition to college by creating a community in which new students feel supported academically and socially is essential. Furthermore, being an advocate for new students requires the mentor to facilitate effective communication between the students and their instructors.

While having worked with wonderful students whom were in professional development, I had theopportunity to experience student growth on many levels. Students accomplished the difficult tasks of translating articles, making professional presentations, and successfully passing bilingual examinations required by the department. Being able to teach students different grammatical, vocal, and literary techniques has been the greatest reward the institution has given me.

Teaching students a great deal of information in such a short period of time is a huge task to complete, yet that is what being a biology instructor requires you to do. Encouraging students to think about how biology can be applied in addressing the world’s human health and sustainability issues is the main focus of the student’s monthly assigned lesson plans. Furthermore, having them understand the chemical, physical and biological aspects of our world, while providing them with the resources needed to be successful are the goals I have for each generation of students. Teaching at Pan American School has enabled me to be a diligent student as well as an effective educator with great positive influence.

Acquired language skills while learning to assist students that did not possess the ability to surpass language barriers.
