Robert Paton studied Natural Sciences (Maths, Physics and Chemistry) at the University of Cambridge, ranked first in the year. PhD studies with Prof. Jonathan Goodman involved the automated parameterization of classical force fields and their application to selectivity prediction in organic chemistry. In 2008 Robert Paton received an independent Junior Research Fellowship at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, and an HPC-Europa award in 2009 to work with Feliu Maseras at ICIQ, Tarragona. As a recipient of the Fulbright-AstraZeneca Fellowship and a Science Fellowship from the Royal Commission for 1851, Dr. Paton conducted postdoctoral research with K. N. Houk at UCLA from 2009-2010. In 2010 Robert Paton was appointed to a University Lectureship and Tutorial Fellowship at Oxford, progressing to Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry in 2014. In 2018 he moved to Colorado State University as Associate Professor of Chemistry. Robert Paton has received the MGMS Silver Jubilee Prize, the RSC Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize, an ACS OpenEye Outstanding Junior Faculty Award and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
