Robert Whalen is a partner in Goodwin's Technology Companies Practice with more than 35 years of experience. He focuses on M&A/strategic and corporate finance transactions as well as corporate governance, securities law and strategic advice for public and private companies. Mr. Whalen has worked with clients in a wide array of industries, including clean technology, consulting, software, life sciences, consumer products, manufacturing/industrial, retail, distribution, marine services, construction services, and communications.Mr. Whalen has extensive experience representing public and private companies and private equity sponsors in domestic and cross-border buy-side and sell-side mergers, acquisitions, buyouts, strategic investments, recapitalizations and joint ventures. He also represents a number of family-owned/operated businesses and has sold many, ranging in size from $25M to more than $1.5B. He regularly advises public company boards, special committees and executives regarding strategic matters and corporate governance. Mr. Whalen has substantial experience in capital markets transactions and is lead corporate and securities counsel for publicly traded companies.Mr. Whalen has been recognized as a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics and Boston magazine.In 2016, Mr. Whalen was Lexology’s Client Choice Awards exclusive winner of the M&A category for Massachusetts.He is also a 2016 Corporate LiveWire Global Award winner for M&A within the Technology Sector.While in law school, he was a Case and Note Editor of the American Journal of Law and Medicine.Mr. Whalen is a member of the Boston, Massachusetts, New York State and American Bar Associations and is admitted to the Massachusetts and New York Bars.
