Robert Riggs received his first Alfred I. duPont Columbia University Journalism Award in 1980 for a ten part series of investigative reports on corruption and safety defects in the construction of facilities for the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York. It was the first duPont ever received by VIACOM, which owned the station at that time.Riggs extensive reporting on the industrial pollution of the Hudson River earned him New York State's AP & UPI awards.It was among the most talented team of young photographers that Riggs ever worked with, especially John Basko who shot “48 Hours” style long before “48 Hours” ever existed.

Robert Riggs was a Congressional District Organizer and regional advance man for the first Jimmy Carter Presidential Campaign.
