During my time at Intel I worked on a cross-functional team designing a laptop. - taught myself Creo Parametric and wrote a best known method document for learning Creo that the team will use for future new hires - designed the mechanical layout of the printed circuit boards and WiFi antennas in the laptop - controlled placement of large components on the PCBs to avoid interference issues - regularly communicated with the electrical circuit design team in India to go over PCB outline and component placement. I also negotiated placement of various connectors to improve cable routing in the system. - wrote another best known method document for communication and file transfer between the mechanical design team and the electrical design team - modeled user volume and power buttons - attended weekly update meetings for the team projectAdditionally I supported another laptop design team by conducting a survey and report of different types of screws used in their design. The purpose of this survey was to reduce the overall number of different types and improve the assembly process of the laptop for the manufacturing group.

At DTNA I worked in the Door Systems group on various projects - was trained to use Catia v5 - communicated with suppliers on their door hinge designs and provided feedback about DTNA's design specifications compared to their designs - modeled a door hinge and integrated check design for concept purposes and researched other existing hinge check system designs to provide information to the team. - problem solved a water leak issue that was due to improper installation of a current water barrier design -- I redesigned the water barrier to improve installation which solved the leak issue and also saved the company $3000 per year - For another water leak issue I worked on modeling few potential solutions for the team to review and decide upon - worked with the Product Validation group on an issue being reported at a manufacturing plant. There were reports of torque loss in bolts that fastened the doors to the cab after going through an e-coat process. My role was to work with a test engineer to find the root cause of this torque loss. -- I found the solution to be that the plant was not properly curing an adhesive according the manufacturer's specifications - conducted a technical paper research for metal alloys that could potentially reduce the weight for the current door system while maintaining structural strength. -- As part of this research a conversation with a plant manager resulted in finding a way to reduce the thickness of the doors by a small amount without changing the tooling. This solution would lighten the door, remain structurally strong, and save the company about $300,000 per year due to the reduction of material.
