Fixed Telecoms Network/Global Satellite Mobile-Railways (FTN/GSM-R) Project, Crewe. FTN/GSM-R is a £2Billion National Telecoms Network incorporating the installation of a national fibre optic cable network (FTN) and 2500 radio base stations (GSM-R). When completed in 2013, it will provide direct signaller/driver communication for the first time ever across the UK rail network.I have managed the civil engineering works carried out by BAM Nuttall on the Project (Value of works £9million)Responsible for the delivery of Project Assets ahead of FTN/GSM-R Programme to accommodate the requirements Network Rail Re-signalling Projects.Delivered FTN/GSM-R assets for Cambrian ETCS Level 2, Cardiff Area Signal Renewal, Little Mill Junction to Hereford Re-signalling, Manchester East Re-Signalling, Harrogate Re-signalling, York Concentrator and Cannock, Walsall and Water Orton Re-signalling Projects. Mananaged fibre tails installation, from a main fibre bearer cable to transmission site, by specialist telecoms contractor, Linbrooke (Value to date £820K).

Negotiation of Works Agreements with Outside and Third Parties for approval and supervision of works to be carried by Outside/Third Parties (mainly Highways Agency or local authority highways department) adjacent to, over or under Network Rail Infrastructure and that may impact on the safe operation of the railway. Management of expectations over what measures would be required and the costs of Network Rail supervision. Projects included replacement of Hough Bridge, Crewe and Mossband Viaduct, Carlisle for the Highways Agency; the installation of the new connection into new Trans Pennine Express Depot at Ardwick for Siemens and the renewal of the junction into Fiddlers Ferry Power Station for Scottish & Southern Energy.Acting as the Outside/Third Parties point of contact at Network Rail, I was required to liaise with other parts of the business to ensure that Outside/Third Party requirements were satisfied, including the management of a Construction Manager and Site Supervisors to ensure supervision when Outside/Third Parties were working in close proximity to the rail infrastructure.The Installation of the connection at Ardwick required two weekend blockades of Manchester Piccadilly station. Arranged meetings with affected Train Operators prior to booking Blockades,To negotiate contingency workings, bus replacement services and costs.Ensure the capture of all Network Rail costs for billing to Third/Outside Parties and reporting project progress utilising an internal cost reporting database.

Responsibility for the management of a number of train operation contracts, including sandite/de-icing, weedspray, inspection saloons, track recording, MENTOR OLE monitoring train, structure gauging train and snowploughs.

Negotiation and Agreement of General Contracts for the North West Zone of Railtrack. Contracts included vegetation control, sandite/de-icer, weedspray, structures assessment, infrastructure monitoring trains, inspection saloons.Post-Contract administration of General Contracts.
