Robert Sentinery cut his teeth in publishing as co-founder of The Elastic Medium, a journal of poetry launched during his senior year of high school in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1990, at the onset of desktop publishing, Sentinery co-founded ZONE magazine, a quarterly arts and culture publication that went on to achieve newsstand distribution in 30 countries. In May of 1995, Sentinery was chosen by Vanity Fair magazine as one of 15 magazine editors worldwide to be featured in a photo spread entitled “Editors at Large.” Considered to be an expert in the launch and operation of publications, Sentinery was a regular columnist for FOLIO: The Magazine for Magazine Management, from 1994 to 1997. Originally published as part of the series “Small Magazine Workshop,” Sentinery’s articles have since been widely disseminated. He has also been a featured speaker at publishing conferences throughout the US, including New York, Chicago and Miami. In July of 1994, Sentinery co-founded the Phoenix-based monthly arts and culture publication JAVA. Now in its twenty-ninth year, JAVA is an independent arts and culture publication that serves the Phoenix metro area. As Publisher/Editor, Sentinery is responsible for overseeing the editorial and artistic direction of the magazine.
