• Manage many GIS staff within the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) for multiple tasks ranging from Operations Center Situational Awareness to Planning, Logistics and Modeling• Determine the direction of the GIS department for the office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR)• Ascertain and evaluate the needs of the users of MedMap by use of many techniques to determine level of need and function simplicity required• Advise senior leaders on the advantages of certain technological options to enhance the current business methods• Determine and manage line items and amounts for fiscal budgeting that will enhance and enable the GIS Program to provide the most current information and software to the decision makers of HHS• Coordinate with all agencies within HHS to ensure that all of the GIS & Mapping needs are met and that all of the requests are completed on time and to the highest standards as possible• Establish memorandums of understanding between Federal, State and local governments for data sharing and data use• Coordinate the reach-back ability of the GIS department to many federal agencies such as US Secret Service and the Department of Energy as well as other agencies, Defense Threat Reduction agency (DTRA) and Interagency Modeling and Atmospheric Assessment Center (IMAAC) for subject matter expert modeling• Maintain and update all data sources and licensing agreements for the GIS database• Create and update mission statement documentation to guide the GIS workgroup• Lead the GIS workgroup within the HHS including of its divisions and other federal agencies (FDA, CDC and VA)• Travel to many areas in US to train all of the regionally deployed staff on the GIS capabilities and options• Travel to conferences and symposiums to present new projects and initiatives within HHS GIS• Administer the MedMap application and determine the direction of development
