I recently obtained a bachelors degree in biology at Florida State University. I currently hope to find a research position that aligns with my interest in ecology and evolutionary biology. My passion and ultimate goal is to contribute as much as I can to our understanding of the natural world. I hope to one day manage a lab, or possibly pass on my knowledge and passion for biology through teaching.

My daily tasks include using a flow cytometer assess the density of algae samples, measuring nitrate levels present in each sample using a spectrometer, and mixing chemicals in order to produce a proprietary algae fertilizer. In order to prevent contamination, I often use aseptic technique when gathering samples or working with algae that is still growing. I help sterilize many of the tools we use by using an autoclave and ozone sterilization. Another important part of my job is data entry. All the information gathered on each sample is meticulously entered into dedicated excel documents.

Dr. Lemmon’s lab explores speciation using various amphibian, and reptilian test subjects. Dr. Lemmon’s research is approached using a myriad of different disciplines including biogeography, genomics, and behavioral ecology to name a few. By assisting her and her graduate students, my knowledge of these subjects has been reinforced.

Examples include, washing and autoclaving lab equipment, preparing and examining wet mounts, and diluting and plating bacterial samples.
