I led our SOC2 Type II implementation. I wrote and implemented policies governing Code Change Management, Monitoring and Alerting, Security, Incident Response, and Business Continuity.I built our Check-In feature which allows patients to upload insurance, drivers license, and various demographics data directly to the EHR.I integrated our product with several new EHR partners. This included online scheduling, patient recalls, patient payments, and patient check-in.

I wrote multiple PEG parsers in Rust to handle analysis and compilation of various Ticketmasterspecific DSLs.I wrote a substantial portion of our internal Macro32 (TM VAX Assembly) parser and built out a Rust compiler extension to automatically convert Macro32 structures to Rust structures. The extension allows a user to derive a trait on the generated Rust structure to achieve full read/write capabilities to the underlying VAX virtual memory.I migrated our core ticketing engine, based on a VAX Virtual Machine, to run inside a Docker container. This allowed us to run our extensive BDD suite against the Docker version which significantly increased test speed and reproducibility, and lowered defect injection.I migrated large portions of the code base to the Bazel build system. I wrote custom Bazel build rules using the Starlark language.I gave internal Tech Talks centered around modern development practices and the software delivery lifecycle. Topics included Mono Repositories, CI/CD, Trunk-based Development, Immutable Infrastructure, and Hermetic builds and testing.

Building Pinterest's first Stream Processing Platform. I designed and built the entire system.We are using Mesos for resource orchestration, Marathon for task management, HDFS for durable storage, Hive Metastore for managing table metadata, Spark for data ingestion from Kafka, Presto for ad-hoc querying, and Redash for dashboards and visualization.The platform has been widely adopted within Pinterest to reduce SLA on critical reporting systems.

I wrote large portions of the iOS App, including the menu integration and interface; the Rotate To Reorder feature; and the core networking and authentication code. I wrote the menu integration for the Android version. I also contributed significant bug fixes while managing the overall project.

I led the iOS development for drchrono's mobile EHR platform. drchrono has five Apps in the App Store. The Apps run on both the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad, and target consumer and professional users. I wrote software almost exclusively, but I still found time to talk with customers and set development priorities for each of our iOS products.I also wrote Python web APIs to allow the iOS Applications to communicate with the back end system (Django Framework).

Redshirt Software's goal was to develop expandable games for mobile platforms, initially targetting the Apple iPhone.I ran this company full-time until my return to Salient Systems. I developed a unique word game, Lexagram, for the iOS platform. The game can be considered a three-dimensional word search. I developed a modest 3D OpenGL Engine to support the game. Lexagram has received many positive reviews and spent some time in the "What's Hot" list for iOS Word Games.During this time I also operated as an iOS Consultant and developed a custom iOS App for interacting with Salient Systems' RSM modules. I developed the User Interface and implemented the entire application--this included integrating a 100K line C library and adapting it to work asynchronously with the Objective-C runtime environment. The App communicated with the RSM modules via a custom BlueTooth iOS Accessory developed at Salient Systems (I did not participate in the iOS Accessory development). The RSM module data was transferred to a Web Service once connectivity was available. The application was completed on time.

I operated as a free agent within software development, working on whichever projects needed me. The most difficult problem I solved was an issue reading RFID tags on locomotives in China. Simply put, there was an important class of tags that our systems did not read at all. I found an expert partner in the RFID field who provided us with a modified tag reading system that exposed the raw electrical signals generated by the RFID tags. We collected that data with an oscilloscope and transferred it back to the US for analysis. With some assistance from our RFID partner I was able to convert the analog signals to data frames, and from there reverse engineer the format of the data encoded in the frames. The final system was deployed to a location in China where we determined that it completely solved the problem. This project allowed Salient Systems to collect the final payment on the contract and opened up a lucrative new market for our RFID partner. It was the very essence of win-win.

Developed new features for Salient Systems' flagship WILD product, an embedded Linux device for measuring wheel performance on trains. I developed application level software as well as kernel modules and infrastructure to build, test and support the product.

I wrote NAT regression testing software for a series of small business routers. I also managed day-to-day network administration tasks on a variety of platforms, including Linux, Solaris, NetBSD and various flavors of Microsoft.
