Senior ArchitectGft Group Sep 2019 - Jul 2021Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, DeHaving gained tremendous experience in monolithic to microservice migrations, I joined GFT to bring these skills to clients looking to begin their transformation journeys. • Architected and implemented the first series of microservices in a large-scale multi-year modernization effort. • Transformed a monolithic product that could only be launched quarterly into a Kubernetes backed containerized Microservice architecture. o Complete with CI/CD Pipelines and Automated Regression Tests allowing frequent low risk deployments of new functionality and bug fixes. • Educated client's engineers in Microservice Architecture and Software Development best practices through hand on pair programming, code reviews, refactoring techniques, intensive focus on Test Driven Development and architecture discussions. • Established best practices surrounding code reuse, Networking with Envoy, OAuth Authentication, Data integrity, Eventual Consistency, and Message Handling with Kafka. -
Chief Technical OfficerFokison, Inc Nov 2017 - Dec 2019Thought-provoking startup working to address the serious issues of smartphone dependency, distraction, and productive loss. FokisOn encourages collaboration, high interpersonal engagement, friendly competition, and supports our communities.• Created a React Native mobile application with several native components for monitoring customer status “In the Moment.” Robust testing harness implemented with Jest and enzyme.• Node.js backend API deployed in AWS. Leveraged MongoDB for persistent storage with test coverage implemented with Mocha and Sinon.JS• Designed, implemented, and deployed a web based react app for viewing of stats as well as administration of core system features

Advisory EngineerEndurance International Group Feb 2019 - Sep 2019Jacksonville , Fl, UsIn recognition of, and a direction to continue, my efforts to move our organization from bulky monolithic systems to a microservice container-based infrastructure I was promoted to Advisory Engineer.• Architected and designed our first microservice, designing the structure in OpenShift of our deployment, created Jenkins pipelines for automated regression testing and full end to end CI/CD.o Repeated this for two additional microservices and served as product owner for a virtual team of 6 (representatives of each scrum team) on how best to leverage OpenShift and Jenkins for CI/CDo Heavily influenced the organizations culture, shifting from a “Cattle not Pets” production environment.• Collaborated in the architecture of an enterprise wide IVR system with the goal of reducing average handle time for agents and empowering customers to self-service.• Set department policies and best practices, soliciting feedback from all team leads and working to build consensus. “Ruling through influence, not edict” worked to drive adoption of new policies and instilled a sense of ownership in each team over their spheres of influence within our organization.• Mentor our most senior resources on architecture and technical considerations, and in large part, how best to mentor and develop all members of our department. This included strategies for creating a safety net while still allowing individuals to learn from their mistakes, how to disagree without being disagreeable, and how to encourage creative thinking and bold action. -
Principle Software EngineerEndurance International Group Feb 2018 - Feb 2019Jacksonville , Fl, UsAfter having done significant contracting for Endurance, I returned and accepted a full-time position. My primary focuses were refactoring and rearchitecture of legacy systems, mentoring existing engineers to improve code quality (leading to reduction in defects), as well as training and onboarding new engineers and scrum teams. • Trained 9 Software Engineers and 5 Quality Engineers in Perl from the ground up, for many of them their first programming language. This led to the addition of two full scrum teams and an overall increase in department capacity of 40%. • At first refactored, then rearchitected Recurring Invoicing. o Initially a collection of isolated scripts with poor test coverage and inconsistent behaviors, created regression tests to ensure all behaviors were well understood and documented for each class of products. o After understanding the difference (and with solid test coverage) rearchitected into a system that leveraged generalized inheritance and composition to unify the interface and eliminate inconsistencies. o Resulted in faster invoicing as well as a revenue uptick due to better handling of edge cases that would otherwise not have been invoiced. • Worked in a cross functional teams’ manner to bring OpenShift and the philosophy of containerized deployments along with the “DevOps Culture.” At first, we deployed our entire stack into containers using our existing deployment to KVM techniques, providing a consistent environment for user acceptance testing pre-production. • Mentored 3 scrum teams, serving as a subject matter expert on our technology and guiding the fastest and safest way to deliver new features, fix bug, and focus refactors. -
Founder And CeoBrainstorm Incubator Jan 2015 - Nov 2017Houston, Tx, UsBrainStorm Incubator is my first Company and is a foray into the world of being an entrepreneur. All throughout my career I've had a number of "side projects" or "ideas" for products that if I only had the time I would bring to market. BrainStorm Incubator is my incubator where I turn these ideas into products.Focusing primarily on products that solve a specific problem or meet a need I've faced in my previous positions, my current role is overwhelmingly a technical one. I offer Software Consulting services, training, as well as actual software development and architecture services in addition to my implementation of my own creations.Since my experience and expertise is primarily in backend development (APIs, MVC Applications, Perl, JavaScript, and Database Design) I work with several contacts for graphic design and other visual aspects and continue to develop my network. -
Senior Perl DeveloperEndurance International Group - Hostgator Jul 2013 - Jan 2015Jacksonville , Fl, UsIn my position as Senior Perl Developer I am responsible for the architecture of large systems (Database, Objects, and Interface between backend and frontend), training of Junior and Full developers, ensuring strict quality and department standards are followed, and taking a lead role as an implementer in addition to performing code reviews. If your team isn't performing code reviews your team isn't growing, learning, expanding, and getting the best quality code possible.Working in teams of 6 - 10 Developers and maintaining an open line of communication with Product Owners and Stakeholders, we work to develop easy to maintain, stable, performant, and well documented products primarily in Perl, JavaScript, and HTML. I lead the charge to develop financial reporting (currently used for a publicly traded company), a major overhaul and enhancement of our customer side billing system, and a core refactor and improvement of all of our backend billing components (Invoices, Customers, Products, and Transactions). All of this was done "in place" meaning we did not stop adding new features and fixing bugs while we improved the systems, rather we improved the pieces we were working on (what we affectionately call "near field refactoring") to deliver additional functionally and eliminate sources of errors and omissions. While I am an integral part of these accomplishments, our strengths come from working as a team and I have been very fortunate to work with some of the sharpest and most talented individuals in the field. My ability to communicate complex and dense technical information to other developers as well as upper management through the use of Scrum has proved invaluable.Heavy usage of Moose, DBIx::Class, Dancer, and Mojolicious are involved as well as Jira for project management. -
Director Of Software DevelopmentHostgator Oct 2011 - Jul 2013Houston, Tx, UsAs the Director of Software Development it is my responsibility to lead a team of 20 developers as well as serve as the primary interface between Developers and the rest of the organization.I serve as the Project Manager, working to ensure that deadlines are met (and communicating when there are issues or the scope has changed) and that the companies needs are being met. I solicit feedback from developers and system administrators on the best frameworks and tools, as well as enter into technical discussions about underlying technology, software architecture, and software definitions. While interfacing with the rest of the organization my primary responsibilities include informing the organization of new products, soliciting feedback, bugs, suggestions and additional feature requests. As Scrum Master it is also my role to request outside resources as needed to remove blockers and ensure smooth uninhibited development operations.I am most proud of bringing Scrum and JIRA to HostGator which completely revolutionize the way we work. We went from missing deadlines and having no idea how to predict when work would be done to finishing things on time with teams that work well together. It was a challenge at first to get broad adoption but when stakeholders and upper management saw the results they were more than happy that we made the change. -
