Leading the creation of a platform for data extraction of protected health information (PHI) from hospital premises via de-identification/anonymization and transfer to the cloud for big data analytics. Set up the project proposal, requirements, system architecture, and de-identification algorithms. Lead a cross-functional team interfacing with a variety of departments (e.g., legal, global security office, data protection and privacy, regulatory affairs, and clinical affairs), quality, test, and dev ops teams as well as working through the statement of work with a third-party vendor with expertise in data privacy. The system takes data from bedside medical devices, in near-real-time, stores at central server, and makes available remotely to doctors, nurses, and other clinicians as well as programatically via web based REST APIs. Designed and implemented the protocol handling system, enabling plug-in of any device specific interface. He developed mechanisms for data caching, waveform management, and content reporting. He re-architected components as system growth exceeded original concepts. Combining data from multiple devices enables smarter clinical decision support systems; prototyped Modified Early Warning Score, and Spontaneous Breathing Trial systems. Took product from an idea to having over 100 hospital deployments. He has planned new ideas to reduce nuisance alarms and for earlier detection of deterioration.Developed interface specifications for communicating medical data with internal corporate partners as well as external companies. Architected, designed, and implemented the “HL7 results-in” capability for Vital Sync. Instrumental in developing core system architecture concepts that won a $125m contract for Northrop Grumman for the Common Link Integration Platform. Designed and developed system to convert any binary coded specification into a suite of widgets capable of converting real time input streams into a normalized XML.Designed and developed interface specifications and associated software for integration of the Tactical Data Link - J (Link-16) into the B-2 Bomber. Specifications crossed three companies & four systems. This design and code was later ported to the MH-60 Helicopter and became the basis for Low Cost Integration of Link-16 into existing military systems.

Lead the development of the Link-16 component of the Defense Information Infrastructure Common Operating Environment. This real-time command and control system identifies and tracks the activities of all units in a theater of operation. Duties include all technical aspects of customer interaction, team management and system development. Task and manage 13 engineers. Implemented system to Mil-Std 6016A and Op Spec 516, and underwent Naval Center for Tactical Systems Integration certification testing of the system for acceptance and deployment on board the USS Blue Ridge. Re-architected substantial portions of previous corporate work to be object oriented for reuse across all Tactical Data Links and to be multi-platform compatible. Perform source code reviews for team members. Mentored a dozen employees in the use of C++, Motif, and software development in general. Supported customer testing of the system at their facilities. Deployed aboard USS Coronado during Fleet Battle Experiment – B to demonstrate system capability and develop interfaces to other systems. Features developed include menu or command driven user interface, custom database, path finding algorithms, timing simulation, several reliability analyses and graphics capabilities including network layout, plotting, and editing.Led teams performing static software analysis of weapon and flight control software for the Phalanx CWIS, Titan/Centaur DCU, Titan/Centaur INU, and JAS-39 Gripen. Developed prototype software analysis system to assist in the analyses. It included an Ada lexical analyzer, structural parser, cross-reference generator and automatic diagramming capabilities.
