Royer Biomedical, Inc. is a privately held company based outside Washington DC in Frederick, Maryland. Royer has a strong research background in polymer chemistry and localized therapeutic systems, and holds numerous US and international patents on calcium and hydrogel matrices capable of delivering a broad array of anti-infective, anti-neoplastic, and analgesic pharmaceuticals. Royer utilizes proprietary polymer platform technologies to deliver existing pharmaceutical compounds in novel formulations. These synthetic (no animal products or collagen) proprietary platforms allow for sterile delivery, controlled elution rates without any immunogenic response, and controlled rates of bioresorption, without acid production during resorption or susceptibility to proteolytic enzyme attack.Mr. Towarnicki completed a review of Royer’s lead clinical candidate including: performance characteristics; target clinical indications; regulatory strategy; and market needs. ExSAR Corporation, located near Princeton, New Jersey, was the first to commercially offer Hydrogen/Deuterium Exchange (H/D-Ex) analytical services. Customers included leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies, who turned to ExSAR for expert analysis utilizing state of the art detection equipment and the deep experience of its personnel in applying this complex analytical procedure to the selection and development of therapeutics. I was asked by the primary shareholder to evaluate the business opportunity. After joining as interim President I provided several options including investing and building the service business, splitting the service business from the drug development business, or discontinuing operations. What was clear was change was required. After careful consideration, the BOD decided to shut down the service component of the business and sell the lab assets, while maintaining the drug development assets in a virtual organization under the leadership of the majority owner/venture capitalist. The entire process was completed in less than six months.
