Uniontown, Alabama

I coordinated relevant stakeholders to the initial stages of a campaign to improve the health outcomes in Uniontown, Alabama through community organizing and legal intervention. I planned and conducted a soil and water testing plan to establish a baseline of contaminants in local streams, ponds and properties. I supported the efforts of local grassroots organizations and attended Fannie Lou Hamer Organizing Intensive with Project South and Southern Movement Assembly. I created a qualitative health survey in order to ensure programming was relevant to the community. I organized a youth photography class that culminated in an art installation for awareness of the environmental issues in Uniontown. I partnered with the local high school to rehabilitate their garden and led a class on promoting healthy gardening practices with soil contamination in mind.

Harlem, New York

I supported multiple organizers in various campaigns focusing on increasing quality of life in the home, health, and working environments in Harlem. I conducted outreach to tenants in NYCHA and produced materials to be used at meetings, informational flyers for membership meetings and OSHA training sessions.

With Garden School Foundation I worked with children (K-6th grade) using a hands-on curriculum and form meaningful relationships with nature and teachers at a Title-1 school. Within the garden is an intersection of pedagogy and environmental concern that produces tangible benefits; providing students with organic fruits and vegetables and creating a buffer from highway pollution.

I worked directly with the managing principal to get hands-on experience on the process of certifying electrical systems at Los Angeles and Riverside Community Colleges to LEED Certification levels. I collected electrical input data, wrote concise reports and took testing footage to be used in the certification process.
