About Robert Warriner

Robert Warriner is a Experienced global CIO/IT Director and team leader. Colleagues describe him as "Robert is a strategic CIO who provides straight-forward and clear recommendations, delivers on his commitments and is passionate about doing great business." and "I had the pleasure of working with Robert for 5 years while I was legal counsel at Aegis Group plc. During this time, Robert and I worked on a number of IT outsourcing projects together and I was always impressed with his focus on the projects; ensuring due attention was paid to what was important while not losing sight of the bigger picture. Robert had joined Aegis as its first dedicated Chief Information Officer and inherited an under-invested and unstable IT network for the group. He was instrumental in stabilising the situation and providing the platform for Aegis' subsequent growth. During my 5 years at Aegis, the Group acquired many, many companies (small and large), all with widely different IT solutions. Robert ensured a smooth integration into the Aegis network for these companies all the while maintaining a focus on the growing demands on IT to ensure that the IT infrastructure provided the required functionality and capabilities as the organisation (and its geographical footprint) expanded. I have no hesitation in endorsing him."

Sep 1983 - Nov 1999

Senior Consultant

I joined an embryonic consulting division in the Raytheon subsidiary, Data Logic (UK). I established some new business and sales areas for the company with the Ministry of Defence and was a visiting lecturer in technology at the Royal Mlitary College of Science.

1981 - 1983 ~2 yrs

Consultant

I joined Scicon, then a computer consultancy subsidiary of BP, and applied my modelling skills to MOD Army contracts. I was immediately exposed to clients and quickly took over a major programme concerning battlefield simulation. Within two years I took over the Land Systems Department comprising six programmers. I became interested in a new programming language, Pascal, which I introduced to the company, designing and delivering an in-house training course. This was a great success and led to many new contracts. In particular I personally sold and developed a successful pilot system to model certain logistics operations across Northern Europe: this led to a large contract for the company.

1978 - 1981 ~3 yrs

Research Fellow

I completed my PhD and was asked to continue the work as it had applications in various areas, including military. I accepted and built up and managed a small team of three post-docs and two postgraduates. I was then offered a tempting position at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY state), but turned it down because I was becoming too specialised and wanted to leave the ivory tower to join the business world.

1976 - 1978 ~2 yrs

Fortran Programmer

Globe Universal Sciences

After my first degree I went to work as a ‘Seismic Programmer’ with Globe Universal Sciences in Algeria, analysing prospecting data from the Sahara desert. The data quality was poor and I had to replace in-house analysis methods with those used by a French competitor, whom I visited and negotiated with in French to learn their techniques. This was a success and the company was able to complete its contracts.
