My name is Robert Wayne Spence, and I am Director of Catahoula Parish Library which is located in Harrisonburg, Louisiana. I am fortunate enough to be able to perform a variety of tasks which include:• Managing staff at all three library branches• Hiring and training of new employees• Preparing and managing the budget and receipts • Approving expenditures• Writing and managing grants• Negotiating contracts and agreements with vendors• Attending workshops and meetings• Supervising all maintenance and repair of facilitiesI love to read and conduct research which makes my career a dream job. I am able to explore new authors and new media types for addition to the library collection. I am also privileged to research emerging technologies and implement those that best meet the goals of the library.Before joining Catahoula Parish Library I worked as a certified secondary school teacher at Jena High School in Jena, Louisiana where I:• Was part of the emerging leadership initiative • Was head of the Math Department • Worked collaboratively with other math teachers in the development of unit tests • Wrote grants that provided new graphing calculators and smart boards for the math department and science departmentI am passionate about my current position. I recently negotiated a contract with a local telecommunication and Internet provider which yielded a savings of 57% to the library while increasing the speed of our bandwidth. While attending Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana I obtained a Bachelor of General Studies with a minor in Microbiology and a Master of Educational Technology with a plus 30 in Supervision. I obtained a Master of Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I aminterested in connecting with former colleagues, coworkers, and others with similar interests in order to create a network of professional contacts.
