I cool and trap molecular ions of astrophysical relevance in a multipole radiofrequency trap. By performing spectroscopy as well as reaction rate measurements on various species, I hope to gain an understanding of the chemical and physical processes that drive the chemical evolution of molecular clouds in the interstellar medium.

I constructed a cavity ring-down system that measures NO, NO2, O3, and total reactive nitrogen (NOy) in the atmosphere with a detection limit of a few parts per trillion. I have deployed with this instrument in several field campaigns around the country to study various sources of air pollution.
