Back to Bassics is a full service recording studio located in Pacific Beach and is the culmination of my love for music and gear. The dream of running a studio started back in 1993 when I was recording my band on a reel to reel machine in Julian. Since then, Bassics has grown from a humble studio for personal use to a legitimate production house with full time staff lead by the amazing Sebastian Rizo. The studio is equipped with racks of analog preamps (Neve, BAE, Brent Averill, Daking, A-Designs), compressors (API, Empirical Labs, 1176), a Kemper profiling amp and an Apollo Duo. The mic collection is very extensive with Neumman, AEA, Royer, and Shure microphones coupled with a professional treated live and control rooms. The studio has a partnership with Acacia Guitars and Darkglass Electronics, so there are always plenty of amazing guitars and effects to choose from, plus a great house drum kit provided by Drum Craft out of Germany.The studio regularly works with bands and artists from Southern California. Ranging from 6 piece prog metal bands to singer/songwriters, the creative environment and mentorship is conducive to all types of musicians. Services include recording, writing, mixing, producing and mastering. We also have many engineers send us their clients who wish to record live drums, horns and stringed instruments. We are happy to track for any engineers who need support.Commercial projects range from full scores for documentaries to audio production and editing for film to voice over work for radio and TV.
