Starting as a member of the powertrain sub-team I worked primarily on the in-hub BLDC electric motors that we used in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. As team captain I was heavily involved in the architecture of the 2018-2019 car, and have also taken on a multitude of engineering project management responsibilities. Through the design and build season I have also been the engineering lead for the bulk of the powertrain system (motors, motor controllers, dyno testing, gear reductions, high-voltage wiring). Through the 2018 season I have also been able to gain experience in battery characterization and battery design.
Made major contributions to the design of a large high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack for use in cargo transport electrification research. The pack is employed on a first-of-kind prototype trailer-assist system. Developed control logic in Simulink for use in a three-wheeled electric modular vehicle platform. Code was implemented using a dSpace controller and is setup to improve the ease in which novel control algorithms from other researchers can be implemented on the vehicle. Each wheel is powered independently with active camber and steering through hydraulic actuators. Designed and assisted in the implementation of an electronic fuel injection system for cam-less engine research. Developed the initial revision of a digital ignition system for the same engine. Improvements to the engine were made to allow the research team to independently control as many variables of operation as possible.

Investigated the impacts of cast material thickness variation on self-piercing rivets in multi-material joints.
