Robert Stolz is a Solution Architect at Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the Financial Services Industry at Amazon Web Services (AWS). He is proficient in German and Arabic. Colleagues describe him as "I am delighted to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Robert Stolz. Robert worked at American Councils as Resident Director for the Arabic Overseas Flagship program in Alexandria, Egypt, and later in Meknes, Morocco. I was Mr. Stolz’s immediate supervisor in my capacity as Senior Program Manager for Overseas Language Flagship programs from July 2011 to June 2015. Robert Stolz’s contribution to the success of the Arabic Overseas Flagship program was fundamental. Robert excelled in his ability to lead teams and inspire them with his own example. As a Resident Director, he successfully established an environment of trust and respect, which enabled his staff and program participants to reach out to him as a leader and seek advice or help. In his relationship with the students, Robert was able to maintain a professional distance by setting healthy boundaries, while being extremely approachable and cordial. Robert genuinely cared for the students and made every effort to understand their concerns and help them overcome challenges. Robert’s strength in this area was based on his thorough knowledge of the program, his admirable interpersonal skills, as well as his understanding of the cultural nuances of the host countries. Robert earned the respect and admiration of all his colleagues and students by demonstrating sincere interest in the success of the program and by going beyond the call of duty to achieve the best possible results. Due to the nature of the program, Robert dealt with challenges and problems on a daily basis, but he handled them with an open mind and a positive attitude. Robert’s creativity and problem solving skills were demonstrated on many occasions, starting with the difficult task of housing selection for participants, to identifying meaningful internship, to adjusting program need for better outcomes. Thanks to his high level of Arabic proficiency, as well as his excellent interpersonal skills, Robert was able to locate families for the Flagship students who enjoyed their experience with their Egyptian and Moroccan families throughout their entire program. Despite the fact that the idea of internship was quite new for the professional community of Meknes, Morocco, and Alexandria, Egypt, Robert was able to create a large pool of internships, which provided the students an opportunity to both improve their Arabic skills and also to apply their knowledge and experience to their internships. One of the highlights of Robert’s many accomplishments was the successful implementation of the emergency management plan during the relocation of the Flagship program from Egypt to Morocco. Thanks to his sound judgment and his even-keeled disposition, despite the stress and frustration that the evacuation presented, Robert was able to exhibit a positive attitude and spearhead the relocation seamlessly. Robert displayed sound judgment in managing and controlling program expenses and submitting monthly expense reports. " and " To: Whom It May Concern From: John D. Luke, Captain, US Navy, Ret. May 7, 2015 Subject: Letter of Reference for Robert Stolz I have known Robert since he worked for me as an intern at the Booz Allen Hamilton Project Office in Alexandria, Egypt in February 2010. During this short period I can attest to Robert's diligence, dedication and high personal standards. I would have been happy to employ Robert on my team if we had a position available for him. Later, after he returned to Alexandria as the Resident Director of the American Councils for International Education in 2011, we renewed our friendship and he developed a very close relationship with my family and me. I asked Robert to accept a position as a Trustee on the Board of Schutz American School and I sponsored him for membership in the Cosmopolitan Rotary Club in Alexandria, of which he is still a member. During the next two years I saw Robert frequently in multiple capacities, both socially and under working conditions where I heard him speak Arabic fluently. As a result, I can state that Robert possesses some of the highest quality of personal standards I have seen in over fifty years as a leader and manager of men, both in the US Navy and as a business consultant for Booz Allen. It is clear that his time in the US Marine Corps developed his excellent leadership skills, as well as, his discipline and strong work ethic. Robert was responsible for the safety and welfare of over twenty American students during the Egyptian Revolution in 2013. His strong leadership skills and responsibility brought them all through this crisis successfully including a forced, short notice evacuation. In spite of these qualities, what really stands-out about Robert is his high personal standards of honesty, integrity and service. My wife and two teen-aged children have a similar high regard for Robert and we consider him as part of our family. I recommend Robert for positions of responsibility and leadership with any American firm without reservation. Further, I endorse Robert particularly for work in a foreign country because he has proven his ability to adapt to different cultures and excel in an international environment. You will not be disappointed if you hire Robert He has my highest endorsement. John D. Luke Alexandria, Egypt Email: jluke33@me.com Phone: +201015000908"

As in-country Director I led a Department of Defense funded Arabic program which brought U.S. graduates from intermediate/advanced to full professional fluency through a year-long immersion based program.I tackled the challenge how best to not only learn, but more importantly activate a difficult skill set (Arabic). From this I learned universal lessons applicable to my current role helping companies adopt new technologies like GenAI or Cloud.

This period included the January 2011 Egyptian Revolution which made the Spring of '11 very chaotic due to civil strife, protests and increased criminal behavior resulting in frequent school closings. However, I incorporated themes of the revolution into my curriculum. For example while teaching about the enlightenment era, I had students form parties based on different philosophers and put together a platform for Egypt's next president.
