In Ohio and Tennessee, Battelle Education manages the statewide networks connecting some of the most innovative schools in each state with their counterparts - the Ohio STEM Learning Network and Tennessee STEM Innovation Network. Battelle Education also manages STEMx, a national coalition of state STEM organizations.As communications manager for Battelle Education, I organize the development of new web, social media and printed content to help advance these organizations. This includes press releases, blog posts, video interviews and any other content that helps connect more students with the best in STEM education.

My job, like the Ohio Articulation and Transfer Network itself, was old in responsibility (people have been trying to get the good word about credit transfer in Ohio out for some time) and new in form. I've since headed over to a new challenge, but over the course of these last few months I have worked to help the folks at the network get more bang for their buck within existing communications tools and take a look at some new options.These have included:1) Personal letters of appreciation to over 400 of the faculty members whose voluntary service in building transfer agreements is essential to the statewide transfer of college credits earned from public colleges and universities.2) Surveying the transfer staff on current methods of communications and offering recommendations on strategic improvements to these including:3) The design, implementation and editing of the first 3 issues of a concise, simple, and informative newsletter featuring a deliberately causal and humorous tone chose to increase readership. A analysis of clicks within these publications revealed over 100 readers followed through to the final article.4) More talking points, now on transfer issues, both for Associate Vice Chancellor Paula Compton and for Chancellor Petro5) Writing, designing and editing a report to increase compliance with transfer regulations

Helping the good folks at OBR that make credit transfer work with a number of different projects including outreach to faculty members and work on a new transfer agreement.

Responsible for the public perception of the Ohio Board of Regents, the state agency responsible for the overall strategy of the University System of Ohio and its network of 14 universities, 23 community colleges and adult education centers. • Authored 35 press releases in 2010, contributing to over 200 media mentions of the agency, in addition to talking points for the chancellor and agency staff, media briefings, and materials to promote initiatives.• Built or expanded relationships with media organizations including ABC Channel 6, The Chronicle of Higher Education, the Columbus Dispatch, Dayton Daily News, Columbus Business First, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer.• Integrated Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube into media outreach strategies, including outreach for the statewide “Enroll Ohio” tour and textbook affordability campaigns leading to:o 200 clicks to the “Enroll Ohio” video release from the media advisory alone (500 total views)o two additional write-ups of textbook affordability initiatives in Campus Technology magazine after successfully leveraging Twitter to create a new media relationship• Worked directly with communications departments throughout the University System of Ohio on:o breaking media requests, o joint events (primary representative of the agency on 4 announcements of “Ohio Centers of Excellence”)o organized the 2010 editorial board tour of Chancellor Fingerhut to Ohio’s regional papers • Managed the response to every media-related call, totaling over 700 logged requests in 2010. The truth is, I get to spend my day: - chasing down answers to interesting questions, - helping intelligent, dedicated people at our agency connect with the groups they're working to help, and - helping spread the message that higher education is as important for the economic future of a community as it is for a person.
