Everywhere And Anywhere
As a freelance writer, editor and copyeditor I have written for several publications and websites on a variety of subjects including travel, culture, food, lifestyle, sports and general news items. Outlets include CNNGo; SEOUL travel and culture magazine; The Korea Herald; Yonhap News Agency; Serendib, the in-flight magazine of SriLankan Airlines; Morning Calm magazine, the in-flight magazine of Korean Air; and Groove Korea magazine. I was also the first non-Korean contributor to the Jeonbuk Ilbo newspaper, a regional newspaper in Korea, where my translated articles were published every Friday for several months to help give the local population an insight into how expatriates see their city, province and country.
Macao
I was responsible for writing and editing all English-language consumer press releases that were produced by the company. In addition to this there were dozens of ad hoc requests and other responsibilities such as speech writing for executives, dealing with media interview requests and proofreading all kinds of documents and interview answers. I also managed a small editorial team and the departmental editorial calendar to ensure everything was produced in a timely manner.
Hong Kong
Initially subbing across the main newspaper, I transitioned to features working on the newspaper's lifestyle section which included pages in the main paper and the now defunct lifestyle magazine 48 Hours.
Seoul
Freelance contributor to Yonhap news writing stories covering Korean culture around the world.
Seoul, Korea
As the community editor of Groove Korea magazine I gained invaluable experience working for a professionally produced magazine that was staffed with a small but passionate team.My duties involved liaising with the expat community to keep us informed with what was happening in our community. I was also responsible for generating ideas and recruiting people to both come up with interesting and engaging ideas as well as finding people who could produce good content, all without being able to offer much in the way of compensation. I was also ultimately responsible for making sure that everything in the section was as good as it could possibly be. I also wrote articles across the magazine.
Seoul, Korea
Main duties included copy editing articles that appeared in both the print and online versions of the newspaper. I regularly wrote movie previews as well as articles on culture and sport. I sometimes edited the sports page and recorded a news podcast for the newspaper's website. I also edited content for a Korean pop culture section of the website.
Sydney, Australia
Time Out is Sydney's best entertainment guide and covers the best of what's on, what to do and where to go in Sydney. Responsibilities at the magazine during my internship included uploading content to the Web site, which sometimes had to be created for the Web from press releases. I was also tasked with assisting the online content manager with various admin tasks. Other duties included compiling data for the marketing team and fact checking various documents, such as maps, before they went to print.
