As a Cloud Architect at BCLP, I fulfil the role of a technical expert who leads the design, build and support of firm tools for both internal and external collaboration, with a strong focus on cloud-based Software-as-a-Service solutions I'm responsible for defining strategy of the future technology platform around cloud based collaboration services in coordination with the broader technology and firm direction. As part of the role, I collaborate closely with network, security, exchange, data and other development teams and build integration strategies to deliver a cohesive end-user experience through integrations between systems. I also play a strong role in creating governance for firm cloud systems, with a focus on regulatory compliance and firm privacy and data handling practices Beyond the existing technology, I evaluate current and prospective cloud applications for fit within the firm’s technology portfolio, and also support and mentor teams’ technical development as we migrate to cloud platforms for collaboration.

I worked as an all round technical project lead, dealing with complex, odd and unusual projects that fall outside the remit of any single team of specialists. As such, I worked closely with our in house development team to produce systems architectures for custom client facing projects, and provided specialist support for various dedicated legal and accounts applications, in addition to working with clients directly on unusual requests. One of my main roles was to work with our extranet solutions to provide a tailored product for our lawyers and clients from around the world, including specifiying costs and working within budgets. I co-ordinated a team of three across departmental lines to ensure this work is consistently achieved within timescales to client satisfaction.I also acted as a technical writer, producing reports and case studies aimed at both technical and non-technical audiences. In addition, I administer the BCS Corporate Group Scheme, encouraging members of the IT team in their professional development and involvement in the wider IT industry.

During my time as Berwin Leighton Paisner's first formal Information Security Analyst, I introduced a wide range of systems to ensure the continued safety and security of BLP's networks, ranging from various methods of secure working by Checkpoint VPN solutions, F5 Firepass, firewall deployments with Checkpoint and Microsoft firewalls on multiple platforms, and ensuring internet connectivity with Linkcontroller deployments. I also deployed various email scanning and content management devices, and worked closely with the rest of the technical team to ensure a good understanding of secure principles underlay general IT build strategies across our international architecture.

As a Senior Technical Support Analyst, I was required to support a wide range of systems and services, ranging from the DMS platform as an Interwoven Certified Support Engineer, through the range of Microsoft backoffice products as an MCSE, and onto SQL as a fully accredited MCDBA. Network security was a key element of my responsibilty, as was supporting key personnel with remote working. As a senior member of the team, encouraging junior team members was an important part of the role.Later, as Team Supervisor, I was solely responsible for the team every monday in the Network Manager's absence, as well as helping co-ordinate the team through the week, and provided support, encouragement and took responsiblitly for any urgent technical decisions.

I joined when this was originally Direct Connection, and then rebranded as Netscalibur, before the takeover by Claranet. I supervised two junior Internal Systems Engineers which supported three separate locations. In addition to standard MS architecture, including Exchange 5.5 and 2000, SQL Server 7.0, and over 200 internal client machines, I oversaw telecommunications (the installation of a Lucent Definity switch) and the integration into our help desk services as an Internet Service Provider.Beyond the internal systems role, I provided some cover for our NT IIS web servers for clients, and occasionally helped cover the 24 hour Network Operations Center, which monitored all systems and networks.

I installed over 40 Microsoft SBS servers for a range of SMEs with associated client PCs, network architecture and internet connectivity. We supported over 50 SME client sites via WAN links throughout UK A key part of the installations involved presenting on the range of new systems and ways of working, as well as individual training for specific roles. In addition to pre-sales production of requirements for network infrastructure, I also produced requirements and functional specifications for development teams. Part of the daily role was responsibility for the supervision and training of a Junior Systems Engineer.

I initially joined the Wace Group and was assigned to Wace Labels, based in Boston, UK. As part of the Wace Graduate Management Trainee, I was trained in a wide range of skills, including presentation, involving demonstrations to management, up to and including the board of the multi-national. My initial project was the migration of the company from Windows 3.11 and NT 3.5 to Windows NT4 on the servers and desktops. The role involved supporting a wide area network over two sites (Boston and Dartford), and work on the BPR project to rationalise to a single site. I also spent considerable time working with HP-UX and the then industry standard software, PECAS (Printing, Estimating, Costs and Accounting System).Wace Labels became Bezier Labels when the Wace Group dissolved, and I stayed with the company. My business analysis experience included the production of an ITT for replacement of the accounts systems, and implementing the accounts modules of the award winning PrismWin printing management system, following industry best practise.(Bezier Labels is currently Paragon Labels)
