Currently, Head of 4th Year + Professional Studies Advisor [PSA] / Career Mentor LeadCo-Founder of CPU in Manchester School of Architecture both as a studio teaching Atelier accross undergrad/post Grad + a research lab - originally concerned with developing new theoretical approaches + computational tools using a complexity science framework (systems, self-organisation, emergence, intelligence, structural change, adaptation) for design, management, governance & understanding of future cities related to climate change, citizen participation, development strategies, resilient interventions, policy making, urban morphology & capacity management. Computational methods are used to expand the realms of static design methods and theory by enabling a temporal and dynamic process. - Research activity is essential to the development of new approaches. Our research is transdisciplinary and currently spans Future Cities, Smart Cities, the Internet of Things, agile governance and cities as complex adaptive systems. Formed following success in several major competitions Reform grew out of the Manchester & Liverpool Architectural 'scenes' from both the Schools of Architecture [Study & Lecturing] and Practice [Ian Simpsons, Hodder + Partners, AS:L]Re-Form has undertaken a number of commissions including refurbishment and new build projects regionally, nationally and in mainland Europe with work being featured in several architectural publications including Architects Journal, Building Magazine and BD.Finalists in International Design Competition run by RIBA: Tomorrows Garden City/ Letchworth Garden City [2007]Shortlisted to redesign part of a Belgian town - Practice was one of five invited to design a masterplan for Borsbeek near Antwerp. The proposals included traffic management schemes, a square and events space, 21 apartments, commercial space and four floors of retail.

Teaching and R+D in Architecture + Urbanism linking academic research back into commercial practiceI delivered the Post Grad ‘Architectural Theory’ and ‘Urban Design’ Units within BIAD and co-led the ‘Citylab’ Unit delivering ‘Critical Urbanism’, ‘Urban Design’ and ‘Architectural Speculations’ as well as PHD research.Several of my students won awards internally + externally including the 3DReid Student of the year, being shortlisted for RIBA presidents medals and appearing in journals inc. Blueprint etc.

I have taught at Manchester School Of Architecture at a Post Grad and MA level as an Associate Lecturer since completion of my Part II. I also co-founded, wrote and ran the Urbanism & Landscape [U+L] final year undergraduate unit and also worked within the 3XD final year unit . During my time teaching at MSA I have had students achieve award winning entries in international design competitions and had responsibility for coordinating visiting consultants, critics and guest lecturers.

Working on on education, leisure and industrial projects up to £25M both on new build and delicate conservation projects. My main tasks were as conceptual designer through to leading and co-ordination and development of designs with multidisciplinary teams both within and outside the practice. I was involved in negotiation and presentation to clients, planners and end users as well as running community/ client board consultations; in addition I was involved in bids for project funding on behalf of the client. I was involved in various procurement routes - Traditional Contracts [inc 2 stage tender with early contractor input in relation to buildability], Management Contracts, Design & Build etc. In terms of technical solutions, ASL invested heavily and were excellent in their best practice QA, knowledge base sharing, cad and workflow systems etc.Projects designed/ worked on have been shortlisted for and won several high profile awards inc. Roses, RIBA etc + published in several high profile journals.

After my final year exhibition I was asked to join this multi-award winning signiture practice. While working for this major Manchester based practice on work around the UK I learnt a considerable amount in terms of both design and business structure/ operation working on mixed use resi/ retail schemes, urban residential, and education schemes which allowed me to put into practice some of the research undertaken within academia.
