In October 2013, I established Houndskull Solutions Ltd., a software and database development and consultancy company, specialising in Microsoft and Web technologies (Azure, SQL Server, ASP.NET, WebAPI, AngularJS). Houndskull provides software, database and business consultancy to customers based in the UK, North America and Southeast Asia.In October 2016, I was offered an unmissable opportunity to take on a new role, and I placed Houndskull into dormancy.

Web Applications UK are an award winning, Microsoft Gold Partner software house, specialising in the travel industry. As a senior manager within the business, I had responsibility for all support and infrastructure functions, and for many development functions, reporting directly to the board of directors. I was instrumental in the design of almost all the development, case tracking and quality processes used by Web Applications.I combine technical expertise with business and commercial awareness. I was the first choice where there was a requirement for a senior technical consultant, particularly in the areas of SQL Server or solutions architecture.After a period of time focussing on Support and Development during 2011, in December of that year I was asked to resume ownership of infrastructure again. I was also asked to review development processes, source control and case tracking. This culminated in a series of projects to migrate the business to Fogbugz and Mercurial (Kiln), and the implementation of new development, testing and release processes.In this time, I also qualified as a PRINCE2 Practitioner

Although initially employed as Development Team Leader, I was approached in 2008 to take on the role of Services Group Manager, overseeing both the support and infrastructure teams. My departments were responsible for the provision of internal infrastructure, external product support, product releases, DR strategy, and customer service. The support team consisted exclusively of developers, providing considerable experience of leading, mentoring and developing software engineers.I inherited a demoralised, failing department, and transformed it into a motivated, responsive team which enjoyed a 90%+ approval rating in Microsoft surveys. This led to a reduction in support backlog of over 80%. The team provided product support to meet demanding service level agreements, allowing customers to comply with standards and legislation such as PCI DSS and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.In parallel with this, I managed a complete infrastructure overhaul. This included a move to new premises, virtualisation of the majority of our servers, and implementation of an entirely new DR strategy.In February 2009, Web Applications acquired the assets of a competitor. I integrated approximately 200 new (and largely hostile) customers into our support processes. Over the following 12 months, WebApps retained over 90% of that customer base. I carried out development team rationalisation, and integrated the remaining staff into Web Applications departments.

Day-to-day running of a portion of the development team, scheduling work, mentoring and ensuring smooth delivery and quality of work. I delivered several full system customisation and installation projects for major customers.

Headed up a team of 12 web and software developers, providing internet and intranet sites. Developed a major IFA portal that allowed IFAs to submit new business with a value in the order of £1bn/year.
