Writer, Commentator and Professor Emerita of Media Studies at Fordham University. Author of 9 books including the recently published, "Media, Central American Refugee and the US Boarder Crisis. She is Series Editor for Routledge Focus Books on Media and Humanitarian Action. Her book "A Century of Media, A Century of War," won the Alpha Sigma Nu book prize in 2007. Lexington Books published her book "HBO's Treme and the Stories of the Storm." Study topics are news, film, television, and social media with a focus on representation, identify and place. She writes about social justice, war and peace, politics and environment, and race and gender issues. She's also fascinated with in the process of cultural exchange through travel and ecotourism. She writes for FAIR, CounterPunch and Common Dreams, and is a Project Censored Judge.
