This involves activities from design and build of new systems, equipment and practicals to maintenance and improvement of existing systems. I am involved, depending on the project, right from the design by lighting and scenic designers through to the delivery and redeployment of pieces.

Working closely with suppliers, colleagues and clients I had to ensure that solutions met the requirements of all parties. I developed custom electronic and electrical solutions for exhibits including lighting controllers and control devices for games as well as maintaining and modifying existing equipment. Jobs ranged from one terminal to 50 with 20km of cable, a complex lighting rig and custom control.

I worked here for the Ultrafast Spectroscopy Laboratory, part of the Lasers for Science Facility based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. I was involved with developing data acquisition systems for a variety of experiments. I also provided solutions when unexpected problems arose, for example: interfaces between devices and assisted with the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
