I have over 17 years of transport-related experience working for Plymouth City Council. I first joined the transport department as a Research and Data Officer, supervising a busy programme of transport surveys. I switched roles to become a Transport Planner, working across a broad range of transport policy areas that formed the basis of the authority's Local Transport Plan. I developed my technical knowledge of the use and application of local and strategic transport models, including micro-simulation, for both option testing and economic appraisal, progressing to the role of Senior Transport Analyst. My responsibilities included developing and maintaining strategic transport models for use in scheme appraisal and policy decision-making, as well as providing modelling support for large projects. I also oversaw the development of a variable demand model that was used in the economic appraisal of the £15m Derriford Transport Scheme. I joined the Strategic Transport Team five years ago and my role became focused on the development and delivery of medium to large-scale strategic transport projects. As a transport project manager I now have considerable experience in developing schemes from feasibility design stage (including optioneering, public consultation and bid preparation), through to delivery and post-implementation. My first two schemes were part of a programme of junction improvements, requiring acquisition of allotment land and road widening, installation of new traffic signals and walking / cycling improvements. For the last 18 months I have project managed the soon to be constructed £5m Morlaix Drive Scheme. This project has required the acquisition of third-party land, working with the NHS, development of landscaping plans and environmental mitigation measures.
