An ABSCI developed project in 2009 designed to bring sustainability awareness to the community at large through engaging projects and programs on public schools campuses. My role was to build relationships between the two school districts for sustainability progress, and support and nurture initiatives within the schools by attracting funding and community champions for their success.I built a partnership with the local Council of Government and landed a $499,999. EPA Climate Showcase Grant, which helped leverage over $1million additional dollars for energy audits and retrofits in the county schools from state and AARA funding. We built opportunities for teachers and students to realize some of their own visions for greening their schools, through green teams that addressed schools policies, and mini grants for on campus projects.Now located in the Catawba Center for the Environment under the new name, the NC Green Schools Program, it continues to encourage green education and engagement in NC schools.

Co-founder and developer of the 26,000 square foot information technology center in downtown Asheville NC launched as "The Collider." The goal of this effort was to transform unutilized, valuable commercial space in the heart of downtown into a physical platform for collaborative engagement in climate, sustainability, community development and technology. The site features multi tenant offices, coworking and an event venue to support the growing Asheville Climate Cluster and the climate service industry.The Collider is located just steps from NCEI, NOAA’s aggregate agency for climatic, oceanographic and geophysical data, and the chair of the USGCRP (US Global Change Research Program). The Collider has received enthusiastic support as the host site for their outreach and engagement activities, reducing the federal-building security barriers that limit access to these important federal resources and experts.The design behind the original plan was that the Collider and their partners offer a suite of programs that help build capacities for climate proficiencies in professionals across multiple sectors through certified professional development classes, hands-on learning workshops in data application tools, and customized programs for schools, communities and the business community.The Collider, located within the Callen Center at 1 Haywood Street, has redundant broadband capacities of 20gb providing direct connectivity to NCEI through its partner ERC Broadband, one of only three top tier providers of NEXRAD Level II and level III weather data in the United States. The site features a decision theater for large and medium sized workshops and events, conference rooms, shared workspaces and private offices for resident and visiting professionals working in this industry.
