Served on the executive leadership team to inform key organizational decisions. Managed compliance activities with the Public Charter School Board and Office of the State Superintendent of D.C. Developed collateral materials and authored a quarterly, external newsletter for the school, managing the website and all social media platforms. Wrote grant proposals and handled grant implementation to support dissemination of promising programs, enhancement of enrichment programming, and professional development. Oversaw 2 part-time staff and 6 campus social media representatives.▪Won 6 competitive grants from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education and the United Way of the National Capital area. Public Charter School Board, managing the successful 10-year charter review process.

Supervised a team of 3 while leading staff recruitment, evaluation, compensation, and human resources for 200 personnel. Planned and implemented engaging employee retention strategies/activities and supported principals in employing effective talent management practices for their staff. ▪Drove the development of a set of teacher competencies and teacher evaluation system with input from teachers and school leaders, providing clearer guidance for teachers and school leaders on effective performance.▪Led employee relations strategies and oversaw an increase in teacher retention from 58% to 71%.▪Conceptualized a new teacher selection process, enabling a more consistent process across campuses that was aligned to teacher competencies.

Directed teacher and leader effectiveness activities within the Race to the Top grant and Principle 3 of the ESEA Waiver.▪ Led several stakeholder task forces to implement grant activities, including developing state guidelines for teacher and leader evaluation systems and implementing the first DC schoolwide growth model.▪ Managed a $3 million grant to support teacher residency programs in several public charter schools. ▪ Provided technical assistance to participating schools on implementation of the $75 million Race to the Top grant.

Developed and communicated new policy ideas, conducted research and advocacy, and wrote policy papers, on a variety of K-12 issues.▪ Conducted research and wrote policy reports, briefs, and columns on teacher effectiveness, high school reform, and federal policy. ▪ Reviewed legislation and participated in advocacy on Capitol Hill.▪ Was a primary author of several successful grant proposals to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Joyce Foundation.
