In the wake of Covid, our schools are in great need of support, so I signed on as a substitute in my local district. I spend 3-5 days a week herding teenagers (in strong competition with cats as being the most challenging creatures to herd), helping them learn along the way. -I have very strong classroom management skills and usually run a pretty calm classroom where learning takes place. -I follow the teachers plans as closely as I possibly can-I improvise when the teachers plans are not comprehensive enough or when the student's needs do not match the lesson plans-I remain a calm presence in the room -I report important information back to the teacher, such as whether the class did well as a whole, and if necessary, who was a disruption, as well as ways the teacher's preparations helped me have a successful day-I (usually) manage my way through all the different tech, which is different in each classroom...just to make things fun for us subs, I'm sure.

As a freelance editor, in the past 11 years, I have assisted with the development of eBooks, web content and websites, and numerous other documents intended for a variety of uses. My main roles have been that of a general editor, substantive editor, collaborator, proofreader, or ghostwriter. I also held the position of Principal Editor for an online academy that teaches web development. In that role, I managed all the writers and editors on the team and oversaw every bit of the distributed content. Among my many other responsibilities as a freelance editor, I: •Provide guidance to numerous writers on perfecting their skills;•Interpret often very difficult writing, comprehending the writer's intent, and transform it to say what the author is trying to say;•Effortlessly collaborate with people who possess challenges to their capabilities (ESL and others) and a vast array of competencies.

After I successfully edited three of his books, the author hired me as the Principle Editor of his startup, Bov Academy, an online academy that teaches all aspects of web development. While I held that positions, I had the final say on all the content, including correspondence and advertising. I worked directly with the owner as well as with the students, the large team of writers, and the other editors. I also oversaw the writing of the content, much of which was highly technical, and many of our technical writers were ESL. Always, in the process of correcting their writing, I worked to help them improve their writing skills. My other responsibilities included:•Taking the lead in evaluating and hiring all writers and editors;•Organizing the content in a logical way that built on the students understanding;•Prompting the writers to get their content submitted within the given timeframe.

Liberwriter accepts manuscripts written in various word-processing programs and converts them to be ready to publish on Kindle and other digital book sites. It focuses on producing a high-quality, final output for each platform. As the company's only customer service representative, I: •Was on call to answer user's questions about the site and how to use it;•Answered all questions from potential customers about what the site can provide;•Solved the user's technical issues; •Coordinated with the owner and the other staff about the progress of and potential issues with each book.

My student work assignment was labeled Lab Tech. I worked for the IT department as the overseer of one of the campus's many computer labs where the students could go to use the school's computers and printers, typically to complete homework and class projects. My main assignment was to the computer lab located adjacent to the entrance inside the campus library, the busiest and largest one. Students would choose to do their work there knowing that I was there ready to help them with any program or tech issues they had. I very much enjoyed this position because I was able to help so many people by:•Working one-on-one with the students to help them use and navigate the campus computers to complete projects and assignments;•Being competent in using a variety of different technologies and programs, such as Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel…), AutoCAD, and others used in the college courses, as well as in helping others navigate them;•Quickly troubleshooting issues as they arose and communicating the problems to the proper IT professionals.A favorite life experience of mine is the time I taught a young deaf girl what a computer is, how to use a mouse to navigate it, what the internet is, how to conduct online research, and how to use a computer to write a report. This required us to overcome language and competency barriers. I couldn't speak sign language (I took a course in it the next quarter), and she couldn't read lips. Helping her succeed at her goals was a very rewarding experience.
