• Communicates and coordinates with congressional offices, federal/state agencies, and special interest organizations regarding transportation issues.• Manages TxDOT’s multi-million-dollar Federal Discretionary Grant portfolio. • Researches, analyzes, and monitors complex and comprehensive transportation-related issues and legislation and determines the potential impact on the State.• Assists in developing Department policy documents related to federal transportation reauthorization legislation.• Acted as a Department lead on American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding distribution and reporting, and also served on the Governor’s ARRA Council.• Represents the Department at various meetings, conveying the Department’s official position on issues/concerns and fostering productive working relationships on behalf of the Department with outside organizations.• Served on the National Academy of Science Transportation Research Board Synthesis Panel for Emergency Preparedness.• Works as a key partner in TxDOT’s event planning activities, specifically identifying and securing speakers on a variety of topics for TxDOT conferences. • Tracks legislative and regulatory activities and implementation efforts.• Drafts speeches/testimony for presentation by Department Executives.• Works with local governments and transportation interest groups to realize the State’s federal transportation priorities.• Serve as the Lead Worker and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Federal team.

• Directed and executed the state government relations program for the not-for-profit organization representing the 70 medical boards of the United States and its territories, including 14 state boards of osteopathic medicine.• Analyzed legislation and regulations across the country that could potentially effect member boards relating to issues such as, but not exclusive to, pain management, Internet prescribing, telemedicine, and physician profiling.• Staffed Special Committees created by the Board of Directors to address new and emerging issues.• Assisted in planning a membership “Day on Capitol Hill”, to meet with Representatives who have healthcare interests. • Created annual budget and strategic plan for government relations department.• Attended NCSL, ALEC and other national and community events to promote the Federation’s initiatives.• Managed the Federation’s internship program.

• Lobbied members of the Texas Congressional delegation to create, amend, or support legislation that would best benefit the State and its citizens.• Monitored federal health and human service issues and reported to the offices of Governor George W. Bush, Lieutenant Governor Rick Perry and Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Pete Laney on the status of legislation.• Collaborated with representatives from other state offices, as well as the National Governors Association and the Southern Governors Association on issues of common interest. • Wrote and co-edited articles for "News From Washington", a weekly newsletter distributed to State agencies and businesses outlining federal legislative action and its impact on Texas.
