Education: I have performed several research dissertations with a special focus on (tropical) plants, fossil pollen and the microbiome of soil and plants. Palaeoecology - reconstructing vegetation compositional changes by fossil pollen of late Quaternary sediment cores from an Andean cloud forest site, and assessing the impact of edaphic and climatic variability using multivariate analyses under supervision of dr. W.D Gosling and dr. C.N.H. McMichael (UvA). Invasion ecology - compiling and analyzing taxonomical data as well as plant traits (life history, functional traits) and characteristics such as human usage and evolutionary history and compiling these in a novel database on non-native plants occurring on all of the inhabited Galapagos Islands. Analyses included linear modelling and multi-variate approaches. The findings were additionally related to other Pacific islands and discussed with local park rangers. Performed under supervision of dr. Gonzalo Rivas Torres (Universidad San Francisco de Quito). Tropical biogeography- determining the accuracy of existing and novel biogeographic classifications of the Amazon rain forest using tropical tree abundance and diversity data from the Amazon Tree Diversity Network (ATDN) database. The data were analyzed by a suit of multivariate and ecological analyses and numerical support for all classifications were determined. Project performed under supervision of dr. Hans ter Steege (Naturalis Biodiversity Center). Additionally, I have extensively reviewed the current consensus of Amazonian microorganisms (e.g., bacteria, fungi & archaea) occurring in the rhizosphere, soils and phylosphere and what is known about the relation of microorganisms to a variable Amazonian climate, edaphy and tree composition under supervision of dr. Vincent Merckx (Naturalis Biodiversity Center). Currently I am looking for a function related to my educational background, a PhD or a project related to the fields of conservation, ecology & research.
