Robin Frith obtained his professional qualifications as an electrical engineer. He was a founder and driver of the information technology industry in Australia and the United States for 40 years. He has played an entrepreneurial role as chief executive of two mainstream IT companies, Digital Equipment (DEC) and NEC in Australia. He held advisory roles in strategic planning for multinational companies on a global basis.Robin has a commercial pilots license. Early in his career, Robin and family( 3 young kids) undertook a unique adventure - flying from Boston to Sydney through Europe in a single engine Cessna. Robin and his wife Virginia owned and ran their own small business in the computer graphics industry segment for 10 years. This enterprise was wound up when Virginia died.Before he retired, Robin's focus was on the development of the Australian small-business sector and strategic alliances with technology companies in Europe and South-East Asia. He established and was managing director of Lateral Concepts International and provided advisory and mentoring services to small IT companies for 7 years. This eventually resulted, in 1999, to Lateral Concepts joining a three-company consortium which won a Federal Government BITS grant for $11 million to establish an incubation industry in the IT sector in Australia.This consortium was sold in 2004 and Robin retired from the industry with his second wife Annette, and they returned to settle in the town of his birth, Launceston, Tasmania.
