  • Henry County Public Schools
    Second Grade Teacher

    Collinsville Primary
My responsibilities include, but are never limited to caregiver, nurse, shoe tier, instruction of handwriting, math, social studies, science, art, music, drama, physical education, numerous self-help skills, reading and creative writing, insulin provider and/or monitor diabetes, asthma by helping with inhalers and nebulizers while answering at least 5 questions at the same time; as I dance and sing with students to keep them engaged so that I can simply get them focus on learning the curriculum. Instruct and administer assessments while creating units of instruction in all the content areas previously mentioned. Housekeeping is a must. Classrooms have on avg. of 44 hands that touch unknown things and drop unbelievably large numbers of objects that must be tidied at the end of every day. Clutter is frowned upon by those in charge. Not to mention, one must be a member of committees like the ones I am currently assigned: school improvement committee member, awards chairperson, teacher leader of differentiated instruction, field day committee member, RTI .......... Teachers want to have all their children find success. To do so, you should know it requires long hours at school and a heavy bag to carry home that when opened, it will lengthen your work hours way into the night. However, the rewards offered by your students are priceless. Children need all the above and I never let them down. That's what makes ME happy.
  • Collinsville Primary
    First Grade
    Collinsville Primary Aug 1999 - Jun 2013
Same as required when teaching second graders. Just add potty training and opening milk cartons.
  • John Redd / Collinsville Primary
Title 1 Parent Coordinator & Title 1 Reading Teacher
John Redd / Collinsville Primary Mar 1990 - Jun 1999
Parents that were not technology savvy had many questions in the late 90's about what the children were doing with computers in their classrooms. I traveled throughout the county meeting parents of Title 1 children. When meeting with parents, I would provide instructional materials, training on ways to help their children at home and I'd introduce parents to computer basics.
