I was inspired to pursue a career in education when I enrolled in my local community college just after high school. My first-year English professor’s passion for teaching sparked an interest in me. I remember sitting in this professor's office marveling at the framed college degrees on her wall. When I asked her how she went through "all those years of college," she assured me I could do the same thing. As a first-year college student, I thought that being in college for five or even six more years was impossible. She disagreed. Several years later, I did earn a master's in English. I then worked as an adjunct university instructor until I had my big break of teaching full-time at a small community college. I was hooked. For the last 25 years, I have devoted my career to community college teaching and administrative roles. I hope that my passion for the community college mission inspires others just as I was inspired by my first college teacher.
