General Manager - Recreation And Culture
CurrentThe General Manager provides strategic and operational leadership to a staff of approximately 60 individuals that include both management and unionized employees. As the General Manager, I play a central role in engaging internal and external stakeholder groups to identify opportunities for enhancing recreational and cultural choices in the community. We liaise with community organizations including cultural groups who utilize civic facilities and services to deliver a wide range of programs and events. Our department champions initiatives to City administration, Council, and the general public; and work closely with other internal departments and outside agencies to develop alliances and partnerships. This includes overseeing fee-for-service programs and agreements. Additionally, I am required to guide the process for developing long range strategic and capital investment plans, direct the business unit’s business planning process, and be accountable for a $12.8 million dollar operating budget.As the General Manager, I provide vision and direction to our employees. I maintain an environment that encourages individual commitment and growth, fosters teamwork, and recognizes the importance of collaborative community relationships. This includes establishing performance measures and coaching and mentoring staff to build capacity. Delivering effective presentations is also required, as this position makes presentations to City Council, the senior management team, and community groups. I consistently display by my actions: discipline, teamwork, composure, and a strategic mindset that exemplifies leadership in public service and wins the hearts of the community.
