Member of the senior leadership team of Teck Energy, reporting to the SVP. Led all work to establish positive relationships, and successfully negotiate 14 formal agreements and partnerships with First Nation and Métis governments. Accountable for the appropriate engagement and formal consultation related to the C$21 billion Frontier Oil Sands Mine Project. Responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of underlying strategies and plans, and the organization and leadership of the Community and Indigenous Affairs team in the Energy Business Unit. Also, accountable fo the negotiation of Impact Management and Benefit/Participation Agreements and the implementation of Teck's Indigenous Peoples Policy. Key success factors in this role included: creating internal alignment around the need for great relationships and how to establish those; establishing productive relationships; achieving a deep understanding of Indigenous concerns about the project, and finding creative solutions to those concerns. One highlight was my leadership role working collaboratively with Mikisew Cree First Nation in an initiative with Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, other Indigenous governments, other industry, Alberta and Canada governments in the establishment of the Kitaskino Nuwenëné Wildland Provincial Park in northern Alberta. Worked to maintain a legacy of positive relationships with Indigenous partners in the withdrawal of Teck from the energy industry with the closure of Teck Energy in March 2023.

Responsible for identification and resolution of key environmental issues and oversight of the development of a cumulative effects management strategy, specifically related to protection of water quality. Indigenous communities included: West Moberly First Nation, Saulteau First Nation, McLeod Lake Indian Band, Ktunaxa National Council, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe, Alexis Nakota Sioux First Nation. Accountable for Impact Benefit Agreement negotiations and lead negotiator with Ktunaxa Nation Council.

Responsible for the recruitment and organization of a team. Also, responsible for the oversight of strategy(s) to ensure appropriate engagement and consultation with Indigenous and other communities. Accountable for the identification and resolution of key environmental issues and improvement of environmental performance.

Accountable for developing corporate social responsibility policies and obtaining regulatory and social license. Oversee development and implementation of permitting and government affairs strategies to obtain regulatory approvals for the development and operation of the Kutcho Project and other projects; and ensure regulatory compliance. Lead negotiator for Impact Benefit agreements. Responsible for Indigenous engagement and consultation including with Talhtan Nation and Kaska Dena Nation. Accountable for recruitment and development of a supporting team.

Developed and led the regulatory and social license strategy for obtaining regulatory approvals for the Snap Lake and Gahcho Kué Diamond Mines. Accountable for socio-economic impact assessments and applications submitted to the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Review Impact Board and MacKenzie Valley Water Board. Responsible for leading Indigenous and community engagement and consultation including with Tłı̨chǫ Government and communities, Yellowknives Dene First Nation, Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation, and North Slave Métis Alliance. Lead negotiator for Environmental Agreements, Fisheries Authorizations and a Multi-Project Environmental Monitoring Agency. Accountable for recruitment and development of a supporting consultation, environmental assessment, management and legal team.
