Both a “doer and a thinker” Maxson is Founder & Chair of the Association of Planning Groups - San Diego County (APG). APG membership includes all 18 County elected Community Planning Groups. The APG secured a new Advisory Board Member seat on the SANDAG Board of Directors representing the unique needs of the traditionally underrepresented residents of the unincorporated communities. This historic governmental change connects 513,000 rural residents with the greater Southern California region for planning & funding of environmentally sustainable transportation and housing.An elected official with the Ramona Community Planning Group, Maxson has twice been elected by her peers to Chair the Group. Appointed to the County Social Services Advisory Board she provides oversight of health & welfare services. Honored with “Woman of the Year 2022” for California’s 71st Assembly District; "Women in Leadership 2023" nominee by the San Diego Regional East County Chamber; “Citizen of the Year” nominee' by the Ramona Chamber; “California Heroes Month” awardee by Supervisor Anderson; & a “Distinguished Woman of District 40” awardee by Senator Jones. It was proclaimed “Robin Joy Maxson Day” on January 23, 2024 in San Diego County by the Board of Supervisors.Maxson chaired the Ramona Grant Steering Committee to recommend allocation of grant funds to non-profits. Working with multiple jurisdictions & all levels of government to guide policy development, Maxson is a stakeholder or contributing member of Caltrans/SANDAG Regional Plans, the Ramona State Routes Subcommittee, the Ramona Community Health Partner Roundtable, an original participant of the long-term California Teacher’s Study researching risk factors for cancer & other diseases, the San Diego Refugee Forum, & the Agricultural Workforce Housing Working Group. Community education is vital to the government process - Maxson speaks at media events & publishes articles & editorials educating the community & encouraging participation.Maxson spent over 20 years in healthcare administration - managing Behavioral Health Services for 9 million members in California, Colorado & Nevada. She holds a History degree from UCSD; a Masters degree in Cross-Cultural Education from National University; & a current California Multi-Subject & Mathematics Teaching Credential. As a past volunteer for the International Rescue Committee, she provided citizenship interview preparation.A foster/adoptive family, Maxson & husband, Terry Maxson, LCSW, have raised seven children. Maxson holds dual American & Canadian citizenship.
