I designed units and lessons that aligned with and exceeded common core state standards. I provided differentiation using multiple teaching strategies for learners from a wide range of backgrounds, including English Language Learners and students on IEPS/504 Plans. I created a positive classroom environment encouraging learning and promoting student growth while establishing rapport with the students and their families from culturally, racially and linguistically different backgrounds.

I created engaging lessons and activities that focused on improving the students’ overall English proficiency. I cultivated a safe learning environment to promote the comfortability of speaking English and give students ample opportunities for learning and exploration. I identified and addressed barriers to support student learning and remained focused on their growth and advancement. As well as supported the social and emotional development of students, providing guidance and modeling ideal behaviors.

As part of the new academic years online curriculum, I assist the English Language Development teacher in providing instruction to individual and small groups of students via Zoom. I communicate with the students in English; repeat and reinforce instruction to assist students’ comprehension and understanding. As well as provide more individual assistance to students experiencing learning difficulty. In addition, I correct and explain errors, answers questions, use games, stories, songs and other instructional activities to reinforce the main lesson plan.

I worked with high school aged students, ranging from ages 14 to 18 where I would meet with the students twice a week interacting with them to improve students’ Chinese academic and cultural literacy through fostering personal relationships and building student’s reading, writing and conversational skills. Went over the weekly in class assignment and homework with them. Helped them practice using the new vocabulary words they learned and taught them how to use it in a sentence, Aided students in preparation for an exam and helped them gain a deeper understanding of writing principles and concepts.
