About Robin Macpherson

Robin took up the first Chair in Creative Industries at the University of the Highlands and Islands in August 2015. He was previously Professor of Screen Media, Director of the Institute for Creative Industries and Director of Screen Academy Scotland at Edinburgh Napier University. He served on the board of Creative Scotland from its creation in 2010 to 2015 and on the board of Creative Edinburgh from 2011 to 2015. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and a member of BAFTA and the European Film Academy.Robin established and led the multi-national development programme for film-makers, ENGAGE, supported by the EU MEDIA programme from 2008 - 2015.An experienced producer of documentary, current affairs and drama for the BBC, Channel 4 and international broadcasters, he received a UK BAFTA nomination in 1996 and a Scottish BAFTA nomination for best documentary in 2004. His most recent production, 'Filming the list'​, toured Scottish cinemas during 2014.He has previously acted as a consultant to a wide range of local and national public bodies on media development, policy and creative industries and from 1999 to 2002 was executive in charge of Script and Project Development for the national screen agency, Scottish Screen as well as Executive Producer of the Scottish Television/Scottish Screen series ‘This Scotland’. Joined Edinburgh Napier 2002 to develop postgraduate professional screen education, commercial and international links. Director of Screen Academy Scotland 2005 accreditation as one of originally seven now three UK centres of excellence accredited by industry skills body Creative Skillset .Research interests include creative producers and public film policy. ; (2012) 'Scottish cinema – myth and reality from Hollywood to Holyrood'​ in the 'Intellect Directory of World Cinema: Britain'​ and'Peripheral visions?
