Helping to lead, foster, develop and grow appropriate ties and connections across UHI’s Higher Education researchers and teachers within the broad field of creative industries.A key aspect of the role will be to focus on the development of a sustainable creative economy in Shetland and across the Highlands and Islands. The post is also expected to develop and deliver effective links with businesses and public agencies, acting in this regard on behalf of UHI’s academic interests, and also to secure access to a range of beneficial funding and educational opportunities that will arise from this engagement.

Provide leadership, day-to-day management and strategic direction (reporting to the Management Board) for the Screen Academy Scotland.Review and undertake curriculum planning for the current and future programmes (including CPD).Develop links across the School, Faculty and other creative industries disciplines within the University.Develop external links with the film / broadcast and audio-visual industries, cultural and community agencies. Undertake development work and income generation activity for the Academy.Contribute to research and consultancy activities

Led the successful 2004 bid to secure Screen Academy accreditation and funding and transformed postgraduate screen practice education in Scotland with the first professional programmes for screenwriters, producers and directors, CPD for industry and international collaborations.Generated over £5m of new external funding to enhance film practice programmes and provide CPD to industry.Established and led Screen Futures’, an ESF EQUAL supported project to promote diversity in the screen industry by supporting the business creation process.Established and led ENGAGE, a multi-national film talent programme collaboration between four EU countries supported by the EU MEDIA programme from 2008-2015.Secured Scotland's first and only international film school accreditation by CILECT, the world association of film schools.

Established and grew the Academy to be Scotland's only nationally (Creative Skillset accredited Film Academy) and internationally recognised (CILECT member since 2008) centre of excellence in postgraduate screen skills and the leading provider of Continuing Professional Development opportunities for filmmakers in Scotland.

Producer/Director of current affairs, documentary and drama for non-profit educational trust with Channel 4 output deal and commissions from Scottish broadcasters (BBC, SMG, Grampian) and voluntary sector. Received BAFTA nominationin 1996 for first drama production.
