Education and research employee working on the development of a digital twin to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in healthcare. I will defend my PhD on December 19, 2024. As part of my PhD project within the Mechanics of Materials research group, I have been responsible for designing, building, and optimizing an innovative setup to measure mechanical residual stress in multi-layer thin films. This setup comprises three core components: a stress sensor to determine average film stress, a plasma system for material removal to analyze residual stress at various thicknesses, and a microbalance for precise measurement of removed material. In addition, I developed a novel methodology to assess the mechanical properties of ultra-thin membranes under both compressive and tensile stress. The design process is grounded in a solid understanding of physics, leveraging knowledge from multiple disciplines while rapidly acquiring any necessary new skills. Each design is thoroughly analyzed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) to enhance both performance and manufacturability. Subsequently, I develop software to operate the device and conduct comprehensive experimental tests to validate its accuracy and functionality.
