Robin Mitch Mitchell is a highly versatile music therapist with extensive experience working on both sides of the Atlantic. He has a broad range of clinical and musical resources that he combines with excellent knowledge of the different approaches to music therapy and their application. He is a talented improviser, composer, songwriter and music recording technician. He is able to draw upon and adapt these skills to serve client needs in a variety of clinical settings. Mitch has shown commitment to his continual development, most notably by moving from the UK to New York City in 2009 to undertake the advanced, post-master’s training in Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy at New York University. Since completing his studies Mitch has worked in an inpatient oncology setting in addition to a community based Hospice/Palliative Care program. During this time he has focused his clinical work on developing an approach that integrates the use of instrumental and vocal improvisation with familiar songs to help address the physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient. Mitch has vastly extended his musical knowledge to meet the needs of the patients and family members with whom he has worked throughout the culturally diverse New York City area. Mitch has presented his work to a variety of audiences, including the AMTA national conference in Chicago. He was also featured in a documentary film “When People Die They Sing Songs” by Olga Lvoff. In addition to music therapy Mitch is an active performer, playing and recording both in ensembles and as a solo artist.
